I’m visiting my best bud in prison. First he tells me that it’s not hellish where he is, it’s just that it’s the same thing every day. Hearing him, the guard then gets up from her chair and comes over to him and gives him a piece of candy. It is so touching I want to cry. Even in the darkest of places the spirit works.
The next thing he tells me really uplifts my heart. First, he reminds me that he’s been in prison five months. Then he asks how long it feels like, to which I reply, “years.” Then, he says it’s gone by so quickly for him, and that he’s realized all things pass. After five months of depressing letters he has finally come to this bird’s eye view of his situation. He’s winning. Winning over what? Over his own ego. That is a miracle.
