Our world works by reason, doesn’t it? We use it to justify things to both our ourselves and others. It is the source of authority in law, science, and other fields.
Yet, truth be told, we are not reasonable beings. We want strange things and we do strange things. For most of my life this was been a problem, until I realized that the irrational side of myself – my shadow, as it were – ain’t so bad. In fact, it’s where a slew of wonderful things reside, including intuition, unconditional love, unreasonable forgiveness. Since those discoveries I have begun to trust that dark side of myself.
Reason is not all it’s cracked up to be. It sure helps when someone asks for directions or, in my case, programming a computer, but it won’t lead you to happiness. Learn to trust that which is beyond reason and you will discover amazing things about yourself you never knew existed. However, you also must be willing to confront the unknown and ugly, too. When you are not afraid to do this, freedom will be yours.
